Areas of Concern
- The main objective of a Semple Family get together is to form strong relationships
among its member and to extend our capacities to enrich our formative main localites
such as Hopetown Lichfield, Belladrum, Mahaicony, Plaisance, and Queenstown
through enhanced contacts by way of reunions and all other available form of
communication. There is a Semple diaspora so to speak. Apart from Guyana we have a
significant presence in the United Kingdom, the United states, Canada and the
Caribbean. In Guyana the villages in which we are in great numbers there are some
basic infrastructure needs. Our foremost mission at this point is These needs are
symptomatic of a general basic deficiency that are endemic to like localities country
wide. Yet we feel as group we can use our varied resources and expertise domestic and
international in an impactful way in ameliorating some of the general welfare and
developmental needs of our inherent Guyanese communities . Education is one of our
foremost concerns. To this end since our first reunion in 1989 we have embodied
scholarship funding as one of our major objectives. From then on, we have been able
each year to make available a number of bursaries to qualified students of family
members. This year we were overly proud that we able to make eight such awards. In
general for each reunion we try to discern a project that can have lasting effect on one of
our endemic communities. Since the 2000 reunion we have been directing significant energy and
resources towards the establishing of a community library and arts recreational facility
equipped with computers and some other high tech equipments at Lichfield. The
building in which these equipment will be housed and the activities carried out is
small and inadequate. We now have a significant task ahead to provide, furnish and
staff this facility so that it can appreciably serve the intended target community.
